The Golden Oosik. What is a Oosik? I’m glad you asked. It’s a Walrus Penis bone. Yup. Apparently they are found along the coast and are very rare. So here I hold in my hands a rare walrus shaft. The perfect way to end our year of festivals! Anchorage was an incredible fest with incredible people. The Dead Inside is honored to accept this award. As I have said at many of the fests in which we have won, it is truly incredible when a genre film is recognized and even more wonderful when it is honored as the best amongst the other dramatic flicks. Next stop…distribution!

TDI recently rocked the Killer Film Festival in Boston and was honored with both best score and best sound design. It’s great to see the work of David Bewely, Michael Brake, Brian Rice and Joel Van Vliet noticed. They had the challenge of making our weird little tale sound amazing both musically and design-wise and they knocked it out of the park. Thanks to Michael Vallier and the Killer crew for programming us and honoring us with these awards.

We haven’t had many reviews for The Dead Inside yet (since it’s not available to the public) so when we come across people who thought this much of the movie we are tickled with bloody joy. This is the second win at Shriekfest for the Drexel Box crew, picking up the Audience Choice Award two years ago with the demon love story, LO. Thank you to all the judges and especially Denise Gossett for putting on such a kick ass horror festival. We were honored to screen and to meet all the great filmmakers that were a part of a the fest. Now if you’ll excuse me, we have to make a little more room on the mantle. Go THE DEAD INSIDE!

Last week Shannon and I hopped in the car and drove over to Arizona for the 11th annual Phoenix Film Festival. The Dead Inside was screening for three exciting days in the Harkins multiplex. The moment we showed up (late for the opening night gala) the programmers were thrusting their palms against ours and singing praises about our flick. A friendly bunch who are operating a festival out of the pure love of movies, so it was an honor to be selected for their fest. We learned that our film was only the second genre film they have ever let into their competition section…so that’s pretty cool. Gregg, Jason, Kathleen, George and even our liaison Todd were all great that allowed us to have a damn fine time.

While at the fest we met a number of really cool filmmakers who we hung out with. Cool artists like Tara Miele who made the great family dramedy, The Lake Effect (that took both best screenplay award and ensemble acting) as well as Devi Snively who is a festival friend of mine all the way back from my Shriekfest days with Lo. She was there with her producer Augustin Fuentes, screening their really fun short film, Last Seen on Dolores Street. We beer-ed it up with Paul Osborne, director of the documentary, Official Rejection and I got to geek out with some Los Angeles theater folks who like to do horror plays (I know, right!? Hi Dan, Drew, Lara and Beth). They adapted a short from one of their plays called Bugbaby and it was hilarious. You can click on any of those people to learn more…if you so desire.

Sarah Lassez made it out to party with us and soak in the love for her incredible (and three character-ed) performance. Audience responded really well to the movie and we even signed some autographs! George Love (his real awesome name) was our guy in charge of setting up our visual and sound check before each screening of the film. Every time he would walk into the theater he would look at me and say, “Have I told you how much I love this movie. Well I do. I love this movie.” Thank you for that, George. It eased my heart as we worked through the technical issues before each screening. But the best part about the entire

festival was that The Dead Inside was awarded the Dan Harkins Breakthrough Filmmaker Award! That’s right kids, The Dead Inside is now an award winning film. Thank you again to all the programmers filmmakers and volunteers that made the Phoenix Film Festival such a joy.

So far this haunted musical is really turning some heads, and it’s only April. We hope to screen as many places as the Earth will allow us in the next year and half, so be on the look out for us in your town! Next up, LakeArrowhead, California!

big-island-film-festival-719243Ladies and gents, I am proud to announce that The Dead Inside has been accepted into another festival and that festival is the Big Island Film Festival. I was ecstatic to hear that another group of film lovers wanted to show our movie, but I was head-over-heels to discover I would get to finally go to Hawaii because of it.

The festival runs May 11th – 15th. The airfare is $600. This year is starting to hit me deep in the pocket book. It’s difficult for a poor man to try and lead a rich life…but damn it, I will not let silly green rectangles stop me from living it big!
